About City

Originated as a rail terminus in the 9th century and becoming an airline hub in the 20th, Atlanta is a “city on the move” in more ways than one. Atlanta is the 5th city to be the capital of the state of Georgia, and its largest city, as well as the seat of Fulton County. It is located south of the Appalachian Mountains in the northwestern Georgia. In the turbulent 60’s, Atlanta was “the city too busy to hate”. And today in the 21st century, Atlanta is the “city not too busy to care”.

In the past 2 decades, Atlanta has experienced unprecedented growth- the official city remains stable at 420,000, but the metro population has grown in the past decade by nearly 40% percent from 2.9 million to 4.1 million people. According to Forbes Magazine in 2017, Atlanta is named as one of the world’s elite tech cities, placing it in number 3 positions in the USA to become a tech mecca and is poised to be the Florence of Digital Age. With a nickname like Hotlanta, you’d expect the temperatures to be scorching year round in Georgia’s biggest city. However, Atlanta actually enjoys a moderate climate with 4 distinct seasons. While the summers can be hot and humid, the city also enjoys cool fall days, occasional snow and ice storms in the winter, and a beautiful spring season filled with blossoming flowers and temperate weather. Atlanta has become the best example of the New South, a fast-paced modern city proud of its heritage. Atlanta is known for many things: its diverse musical heritage, its Southern hospitality; its sports teams etc. From touring the CNN studios to eating a hot dog at an Atlanta United game, Atlanta has no shortage of exciting activities for every age.

Every city has big attractions, but Atlanta is pretty hard to beat. The city has one of the world’s largest aquariums (Georgia Aquarium), Museum showcasing the famous soft drink Coca Cola (World of Coca Cola), Home of the 1996 Olympic game (Centennial Olympic Park), CNN studio, Fox theatre etc.

Some Interesting Facts of Atlanta:

  • Atlanta is recognized as the most heavily forested urban area in the USA, covering 47.9% of the city.
  • Atlanta is home to 71 streets with a variation of the word “Peachtree” in their names: Peachtree Avenue, Peachtree Plaza, etc…
  • The world’s largest Drive in Restaurant by serving more Coca cola by volume than anywhere else in the world.
  • The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has held the title of “world’s busiest airport” for 18 years now.
